Alexandria Voters Head to the Polls August 4 for Key Congressional and Senate Primaries

Alexandria, VA — Voters in Virginia’s 8th Congressional District will cast ballots on August 4 to determine the Democratic nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives, while Republicans across the state will choose their Senate candidate to face incumbent Democratic Senator Mark Warner in November. Early voting is already underway, having begun June 18.

Virginia does not register voters by party, meaning any registered voter may participate in the primary of their choice — but only one.

What’s on the Ballot

Democratic Congressional Primary: VA-8

Five candidates are competing for the Democratic nomination in Virginia’s 8th Congressional District. The winner will face Tony Sabio, who has already been named the Republican Party’s nominee for the seat.

Republican Senate Primary

Three Republican candidates are vying for their party’s nomination in the U.S. Senate race. The winner will go on to challenge Senator Mark Warner, the Democratic incumbent, who has already secured his party’s nomination for November.

How to Vote Early

In-Person Early Voting: Two Locations

Alexandria residents have two options for casting an early ballot in person before Election Day.

Voting by Mail

The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is July 24. Voters can apply through the Virginia Department of Elections website, download a paper application, or call the Office of Voter Registration and Elections at (703) 746-4050.

Completed paper applications can be returned by mail to 132 North Royal St., Suite 100, Alexandria, VA 22314, by fax at 703-746-4540, or by scanned email attachment to VoteAbsentee@alexandriava.gov.

Voters can track the status of their application and ballot through the Virginia Department of Elections website.
